Obverse: Crowned half-length bust of Theophilus facing forward, clad in chlamys and holding patriarchal cross and akakia, legend surrounds, “ΘЄOFILOS bASILЄIΘ”. Reverse: Crowned half-length busts of Michael II, Theophilos’ father and predecessor, to the left and Constantine, Theophilos’ son, to the right, each clad in chlamys, cross in field above, legend surrounds, “+ MIXΛHL S COhSƮAhƮIh I”.
