Military Medal, George V Type I, impressed to “L-19998 GNR: W. HODGES. D.161/BDE: R.F.A.”
William Hodges was attested with the 161st Brigade, 32nd Divisional Artillery of the Royal Field Artillery as Gunner L/19998 at the time of his awarding of the Military Medal (London Gazette 30095, p. 5193 26 May 1917) for bravery in the field on the Western Front in France. He was later promoted to Bombardier and was wounded in action, making him eligible for the Silver War Badge (numbered B74957). Hodges was discharged toward the end of the Great War on the 14th September 1918 as unfit for service under King’s regulation 392.
