United States of America, Silver Fifty Cents, 1928, Hawaiian Sesquicentennial commemorative issue, Philadelphia mint. Obverse: Bust of Captain James Cook facing to the left, “CAPT. JAMES COOK DISCOVERER OF HAWAII” to left field, motto “IN GOD WE TRUST” to right field, denomination surrounds below, country surrounds above. Reverse: Native Chieftain stands left, extending right hand in welcome and holding spear in left, coconut tree in background, motto “E · PLURIBUS · UNUM” to left field, date range “1778 1928” below. KM-163. Mintage of 10,008. Certified by Numismatic Conservation Services as UNC Details, Improperly Cleaned. A quite scarce issue, particularly in grade – the offered piece is a perfect, not overly pricey example of this key date commemorative.
