Description
The Second Reich, German Colonial New Guinea, Emperor Wilhelm II (1888-1918), Silver Five Marks (27.71g, 38mm), 1894 A, Berlin mint. Obverse: Bird of Paradise perched on branch, head turned to the left and with wings spread. Reverse: Denomination and date central within palm wreath tied with bow, mintmark below, “NEU-GUINEA COMPAGNIE” surrounds above. KM-7. A highly noteworthy example of the largest German New Guinea silver piece, lightly toned each side with some deeper colour enveloping the obverse devices, trifling contact marks, otherwise near Mint State and scarce in grade.
