Obverse: Imperial Arms of the Second Reich, denomination “15 RUPIEN” surrounds below, country “DEUTSCH OSTAFRIKA” surrounds above, right arabesque terminates below “T” of “OSTAFRIKA”. Reverse: African Elephant advancing right, raising trunk, shrubbery below, mountain range (resembling Mount Meru) to background, date and mintmark in exergue. KM-16.1; Friedberg-1; Schön-19. A lovely example of the World War I Germany East Africa emergency coinage issue, typical die quality for the type, Extremely Fine or better.
