British Empire, New Zealand, King George V (1910-1936 AD), Silver ‘Waitangi’ Crown (28.28g, 38.5mm), 1935, Centenary of the Treaty of Waitangi commemorative issue, Royal mint, London. Obverse: Crowned bust of King George V facing to the left, wearing coronation robes, legend surrounds, “GEORGE V KING EMPEROR”. Reverse: Vis-à-vis figures of Maori Chief Tamati Waka Nene on the left and British Captain William Hobson, R.N. on the right, shaking hands, Tudor Crown above, “WAITANGI” in exergue, country, denomination and date surrounds, “NEW ZEALAND CROWN 1935”. KM-6. Certified and graded by NGC as Proof 64. Although designated as a proof, this issue is notoriously mislabelled – this example certainly feels like a currency mint state issue.
