Description
British Empire, Ceylon, George IV, King of the United Kingdom 1820-1830 AD, Silver Rix Dollar (8.96g, 27mm), 1821, Royal mint, London. Obverse: Laureate head of King George IV facing to the left, engraver’s initials “B.P.” (Benedetto Pistrucci) below, legend surrounds, “GEORGIUS IV D:G: BRITANNIAR: REX F:D:”. Reverse: Elephant stands facing to the left, country and denomination above, wreath of two oak branches surrounds below, tied by ribbon, date below. KM-84. Certified and graded by NGC as Mint State 62. Deeply toned each side with a very charming palette, a superior example of a type not so often seen available for commerce.
The obverse Latin legend reads “Geōrgius Quartus, Deī Grātiā, Britanniārum Rēx, Fideī Dēfēnsor”, with an English translation of “George the Fourth, by the Grace of God, King of the British People, Defender of the Faith”.
