Germany, Kingdom of Saxony (Albertinian line), Johann, King of Saxony 1854-1873 AD, Silver Siegesthaler (18.51g, 33mm), 1871 B, German victory over the French in the Franco-Prussian War commemorative issue, Dresden mint. Obverse: Bare head of King Johann facing to the left, mintmark “B” below, legend surrounds, “IOHANN V. G. G. KOENIG VON SASCHEN”. Reverse: Laureate, draped and cuirassed figure of Victoria on horseback marching to the left, holding the horses’ reins and Reichsadler banner surmounted by laurel wreath in right hand and olive branches aloft in left, sword embellished with branch remains sheathed, exergual ground line of banners below, date above branches and wreath in exergue, legend surrounds, “EIN THALER XXX EIN PF.F.”. Edge: Inscription in incuse lettering, “GOTT SEGNE SACHSEN”. KM-1230; Davenport-898. Nicely toned each side, particularly on the obverse with a fairly even original cabinet grey, minor contact marks each side, evenly worn and moderately scarce, near Extremely Fine.
