Description
North-western Gaul, Armorica, the Coriosolites, Billon Stater (6.62g, 20mm), Class II, circa 56 BC. Obverse: Stylized head of a Sun god facing to the right, with anchor-shaped nose and neatly curled hair. Reverse: Stylized horse in gallop to the right, with body of crescent-shaped segments and devolved ‘charioteer’ above, devolved boar below, arrangement of pellets to right field. Sear-15; De la Tour-6598. A very noteworthy example of the Armorican type, with a deep, dark patina and a choice obverse, the reverse unevenly struck but with most of the horse present, details Extremely Fine, about as struck.
