British East India Company, Queen Victoria (1837-1901 AD), Silver Quarter Rupee (2.93g, 19mm), 1840, Calcutta mint. Obverse: Young bare head of Queen Victoria facing to the left, her hair double filleted and collected in an updo knot, initials absent on truncation, continuous legend surrounds above, “VICTORIA QUEEN”. Reverse: Denomination in English and Persian central, wreath of 34 berries (19-15) surrounds, tied below with bow with a crescent privy mark, date with stop below, legend surrounds, “EAST INDIA COMPANY”. Steven & Weir-2.43. A very attractive continuous legend quarter rupee, awash with frosted surfaces and sharp devices, very minor hairlines to obverse, details Mint State.
