Elizabeth II of the House of Windsor, Queen of the United Kingdom from 1952 to present, Gold Proof Sovereign (7,98g, 22mm), 1981, Royal mint, London. Obverse: Second diademed and draped Bust of Queen Elizabeth II facing to the right, wearing the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland tiara, legend surrounds, “ELIZABETH· II· DEI· GRATIA· REGINA· F:D:”. Reverse: Figure of Saint George slaying the Dragon to the right atop horse with a longer tail, wielding sword and wearing plumed helmet and billowing cloak, broken lance to left on exergual line, small engraver’s initials ‘B.P.’ (Benedetto Pistrucci) and date in exergue. Marsh-312A; KM-919. Calendar year mintage 5,032,960, 32,960 of which are proof issues. Housed in original Royal mint box with certificate, as made, Fleur de Coin.
The Obverse Latin legend reads “Elizabeth Secundus, Deī Grātiā, Rēgīna, Fideī Dēfēnstrīx”, with an English translation of “Elizabeth the Secund, by the Grace of God, Queen, Defender of the Faith”.
