Description
Victoria of the House of Hanover, Queen of the United Kingdom 1837-1901 AD, Silver Sixpence (2.82g, 20mm), 1873 [die number 14], Type A3. Obverse: Second young, bare head of Queen Victoria facing to the left, her hair double filleted and collected in an updo knot, legend surrounds, “VICTORIA DEI GRATIA BRITANNIAR: REG: F:D:”. Reverse: Denomination central, surrounded by wreath of olive branch left and oak branch right, tied by ribbon below, crown above, die number and date below ribbon. Spink-3910; Bull-3228; ESC-1727. Bold and attractive with notable luster and eye appeal, particularly on the reverse, some minor hairlines otherwise nicely toned and virtually as made, details near Mint State.
The Obverse Latin legend reads “Victoria, Deī Grātiā, Britanniārum Rēgīna, Fideī Dēfēnsor”, with an English translation of “Victoria, by the Grace of God, Queen of the British people, Defender of the Faith”.
