North-eastern Gaul, Gallic War period, the Ambiani tribe, Gold Stater (6.29g, 18mm), imported Gallo-Belgic issue, Series E, circa 56-55 BC. Obverse: Plain convex surface. Reverse: Devolved horse facing to the right, with sinuous body and disjointed, linear limbs, crescent, pellet triad and ‘charioteer’s arms’ above, pellet within circle to left, crescent and pellet below body, exergual line consisting of crescents and pellets below.
