Northeastern Gaul, Gallic War period, the Ambiani tribe, Gold Stater (6.03g, 18mm), imported Gallo-Belgic issue, Series E, circa 56-55 BC. Obverse: Plain. Reverse: Devolved horse facing to the right, with sinuous body and disjointed, linear limbs, pellet triad and ‘charioteer’s arms’ above, pellet within circle to upper left, crescent and pellet below body, exergual line consisting of crescents and pellets below. A strikingly attractive example of the ever popular Gallo-Belgic issue, choicely struck displaying full exergual line, the whole Celtic horse, and plenty of surrounding devices, desirable as such, Extremely Fine.
