British Empire, Australia, King George V (1910-1936 AD), Australian Notes Act of 1st December 1910, One Pound Superscribed Banknote [L 509063], issued 1910-1911, official Australian Treasury overprint issue on an unissued One Pound banknote of The National Bank of Australasia Limited, Melbourne, original serial number [S562940], overprinted with the signatures of J.R. Collins (Accountant to the Treasury) & G.T. Allen (Secretary to the Treasury). Renniks-S50; Pick-A121b.
An exceptional survivor of the 1913 seizure and destruction of the short-lived superscribed series – this piece offers ample eye appeal for the type despite seeing plenty of circulation, several typical folds, overall good Fine to near Very Fine and scarce, an extraordinary piece of Australian financial history.
