Marcus Opellius Macrinus, Roman Emperor in opposition to the Severan Dynasty 217-218 AD, Billon Tetradrachm (12.52g, 24mm), provincial coinage of Emesa mint, Syria 217-218 AD. Obverse: Laureate, draped and cuirassed bust of Macrinus facing to the right, legend surrounds, “AVT K M OΠЄΛ MAKΡINO CЄB”. Reverse: Eagle stands facing forward, head turned to the left, holding wreath in beak, radiate and draped bust of Shamash or Helios facing left between legs below, legend surrounds, “ΔHMAΡX ЄΞ VΠATOC ΠΠ”. Prieur-975. Quite porous surfaces, the portrait quite bold and of noteworthily fine style for the provincial issues, good Very Fine.
