Constantinus V, Byzantine Emperor of the Isaurian Dynasty 741-775 AD, Gold Solidus (4.36g, 20mm), Constantinople mint. Obverse: Side by side busts of Constantine V left and his son Leo IV right, each facing forward, crowned and clad in chlamys, small cross in field above, pellet in field between, legend surrounds, “COhSƮΛҺƮIhOS S L⁎OҺ O ҺЄOS”. Reverse: Crowned bust of Leo III ‘the Isaurian’, father of Constantine V, facing forward, clad in loros and holding long cross potent in right hand, legend surrounds, “Ͻ LЄON P A MЧL B” (C retrograde). Sear-1551. A charming dynastic piece of Constantine V featuring his father and son, some weakness on the reverse, the obverse very well struck in quite high relief, choice near Extremely Fine, reverse good Very Fine.
