Obverse: Diademed and cuirassed bust of Maurice Tiberius facing to the right, legend surrounds, “DN TIbЄRI PP ΛVG”. Reverse: Cross Potent at centre, mintmark “CONOB” below, legend surrounds, “VICTORI ᙏAVRI AIS”. Sear-488. An attractive obverse with an archetypical ‘dark ages’ style portrait akin to early Anglo-saxon pieces; the reverse legend is blundered and with die breaks through the peripheral devices, details Extremely Fine.
The obverse Latin legend reads “Dominus Noster, Tiberius, Perpetuus Augustus”, with an English translation of “Our Lord, Tiberius, the perpetual Augustus”. The Reverse Latin legend reads “Victōria Mauricius, Augustus”, with an English translation of “Victory to Maurice, Augustus”.
