Description
Gaius Julius Verus Maximinus ‘Thrax’, Roman Emperor and the first of the ‘Year of the Six’ 235-238 AD, Æ Sestertius (22.47g, 29mm), Rome mint 235-236 AD. Obverse: Laureate and draped bust of Maximinus I ‘Thrax’ facing to the right, legend surrounds, “IMP MAXIMINVS PIVS AVG”. Reverse: Pax stands facing to the left, draped in stola and holding branch aloft in right hand and resting sceptre in left arm, “S C” to field either side, legend surrounds, “PAX AVGVSTI”. RIC-58; Cohen-34. Ever so slight doubling to obverse, a typically imposing offering with ‘archetypically Maximinus’ facial features, minor softness of strike to legend otherwise very nice, Very Fine.
