Kingdom of Pergamon, Eumenes I of the Attalid Dynasty, King of Pergamon 263-241 BC, Silver Tetradrachm (17.09g, 29mm Attic standard), struck in the name of King Philetaerus, circa 263-250 BC. Obverse: Laureate and diademed head of the late King Philetaerus facing to the right. Reverse: Athena seated to the left on plinth, draped and wearing crested Corinthian helmet, holding spear in left hand and resting right on grounded shield, left elbow rests on Sphinx, ivy leaf below right arm, “A” inscribed on plinth, “ΦΙΛΕΤΑΙΡΟΥ” downward to right field, bow to outer right field. SNG France-1606. Some light marks and roughness, deeply toned otherwise and well centred, a typically bold portrait, good Very Fine.
