Description
Mysia, Pergamon, Silver Cistophoric Tetradrachm (12.55g, 28mm, Cistophoric standard), circa 133-67 BC. Obverse: Serpent emerges from cista mystica, all within olive wreath. Reverse: Two serpents entwined around bow and bowcase, Rod of Asclepius to right field, “ΠPE” monogram to left field, “ΛV” monogram and “Π” above “ΓPY” monogram within laurel wreath above. M. Pinder-123; F.S. Kleiner, Hoard-26; SNG BnF-1728. Although softly struck on the obverse, the offered example makes up for its shortcomings with an exceptionally well struck reverse displaying a bold double serpent scene, details good Very Fine, reverse near Extremely Fine.
