British Empire, Australia, King George V (1910-1936 AD), Silver Threepence, 1936, Royal mint Melbourne branch. Obverse: Crowned bust of King George V facing to the left, wearing coronation robes, engraver’s initials “B.M.” (Edgar Bertram Mackennal) on truncation in relief, legend surrounds, “GEORGIVS V D.G. BRITT: OMN: REX F.D. IND: IMP:”. Reverse: Coat of Arms of Australia, date below, denomination surrounds above. KM-24. Certified and graded by PCGS as Mint State 64. Awash with an enchanting level of original toning, particularly to reverse.
The Latin legend is the Royal titulature of King George V and reads unabridged as “Geōrgius quīntus, Deī grātiā, Britanniārum Omnium Rēx, Fideī Dēfēnsor, Indiae Imperātor”, with an English translation of “George the fifth, by the grace of God, King of all the British People, Defender of the Faith, Emperor of India”.
