Medal attached to black felt card, a nice example with clear ghost dates, unfortunately missing two clasps although replacements are readily available to be sourced on the market, Extremely Fine.
Queen’s South Africa Medal, type 2 with ghost dates, clasps “RHODESIA” & “TRANSVAAL”, impressed “1296 TRPR: H. WATSON. N.S.W. BUSHMEN”.
Henry Watson, born in Merino, Victoria in 1872, attested for service during the 2nd Boer War, serving with “F” Company of the Sixth New South Wales Imperial Bushmen as Trooper 1296. He was amongst “F” Company on the Troopship ‘Orient’ on its return to Sydney on the 16th July 1901 and is listed Sydney Morning Herald newspaper story “RETURN OF THE IMPERIAL BUSHMEN” (16 Jul 1901). Little specific details of his service are known, although it is noted that per the medal and clasp entitlement, Henry Watson is entitled to the clasps “CAPE COLONY” and “ORANGE FREE STATE” clasps (see attached screenshot).
