Hospitaller Malta, Order of the Knights of Saint John of Jerusalem, Emmanuel de Rohan-Polduc of the Breton House of Rohan, as Prince and 70th Magnus Magister of Malta 1775-1797 AD, Silver 30 Tarì (29.68g, 42mm), 1790, Valletta mint. Obverse: Draped and cuirassed bust of Grand Master Emmanuel de Rohan-Polduc facing to the right, eagle below bust, legend surrounds, “F· EMMANUEL DE ROHAN M·M·”. Reverse: Shield of Arms of Emannuel de Rohan-Polduc as Grand Master set over headless eagle with wings spread and surmounted by crown, denomination “T. 30” either side of crown, date to top left, legend surrounds, “HOSPITA· ET S· SEP· HIERUS·”. Davenport-1609; KM-335.1. A charming and bold piece of Hospitaller Malta, deeply toned either side although more so on the obverse, exhibiting a deep brown with olive hints through the peripheral devices, only minor adjustment marks either side, a very collectible example, good Very Fine.
