Description
Kingdom of Geto-Dacia, in the name of ‘Koson’, Gold Stater (8.49g, 18mm), time after the assassination of Burebista, circa 44-25 BC or late 1st Century BC. Obverse: Three figures advance left, in the image of the types of Quīntus Servīlius Caepiō Brūtus (Roman Consul accompanied by two lictors advancing left, all togate and each lictor armed with axe), “KOΣ[ΩN]” in exergue. Reverse: Eagle with spread wings perched on sceptre left, clutching laurel wreath in right talon, pellet below right talon (reminiscent of the types of Q. Pomponius Rufus). RPC I 1701B. A nice example of a numismatic type with plenty of mystery, evenly worn but with a small area of flat strike, good Very Fine.
