Description
Vetranio, Western Augustus during the Constantinian Dynasty March to December 350 AD, Æ Centenionalis (4.70g, 24mm), Siscia mint 350 AD. Obverse: Laureate, draped and cuirassed bust of Vetranio facing to the right, “A” to left field, star to right field, legend surrounds, “DN VETRANIO PF AVG”. Reverse: Vetranio stands facing to the left, in full military attire and holds labarum in each hand, “A” to left field, “⦁Є SIS⦁” in exergue, legend surrounds, “CONCORDIA MILITVM”. RIC VIII-285, E; Sear-18903. Flan a little ragged and a bit weak over the reverse face, otherwise quick nice and better in hand, a bold obverse, near Extremely Fine.
The obverse Latin legend reads unabridged as “dominus noster, Vetraniō, pius fēlīx Augustus”, with an English translation of “Our Lord, Vetranio, the blessed and pious Augustus”. The reverse Latin legend is stated in full as “concordia mīlitum”, with an English translation of “Harmony/agreement of the military”.
