Description
Caesar Augustus, Roman Emperor of the Julio-Claudian Dynasty 27 BC – 14 AD, Silver Drachm (3.34g, 18mm), Masicytes (Myra) mint, Lycian League (Roman Protectorate) circa 27-20 BC. Obverse: Bare head of Augustus facing to the right, “Λ” to left field, “Y” to right field. Reverse: Pair of cithara (lyre) central, aphlaston between them, “M” to left field, “A” to right field. Deeply toned with a rich cabinet grey with underlying colour, struck unevenly and thus a off centre on the reverse but with mostly all devices visible on flan, minor die crack on obverse, a somewhat scarce provincial ‘denarius’ like piece, good Very Fine, reverse better.
