Macedonian Empire, the Alexandrine Era, Philip III Arrhidaios of the Argead Dynasty, King of Macedon 323-317 BC, Silver Drachm (4.31g, 17mm, Attic Standard), struck in the name of Alexander III, Lampsacus mint circa 323-317 BC, under the authority of Leonnatus as Satrap of Hellespontine Phrygia, or Philip III Arrhidaios. Obverse: Head of Herakles facing to the right, wearing lion skin headdress, paws tied before neck. Reverse: Zeus seated facing to the left, drapery flows around his waist onto crossed legs, holding eagle in outstretched right hand and long sceptre in left, “AI” below throne, Buckle in left field, “AΛEΞANΔPOY” downward to right. Price-1379A. Well centred and lightly toned, sharply struck on lustrous metal, near Extremely Fine.
