British Empire, Australia, King George V (1910-1936 AD), Silver Florin (11.31g, 28mm), 1915, Royal mint London. Obverse: Crowned bust of King George V facing to the left, wearing coronation robes, engraver’s initials “B.M.” (Edgar Bertram Mackennal) in relief on truncation, legend surrounds, “GEORGIVS V D.G. BRITT: OMN: REX F.D. IND: IMP:”. Reverse: Coat of Arms of Australia, date below, denomination surrounds. KM-27. A most handsome and impressive early George V Australian florin, somewhat scarce in grade, some minor hairlines and contact marks to obverse and light residual deposits through reverse devices, otherwise full 6 pearls, the 7th and 8th present but difficult to capture through photography, lightly toned, good Very Fine, reverse near Extremely Fine or basically so.
The Obverse Latin legend reads “Geōrgius Quīntus, Deī Grātiā, Britanniārum Omnium Rēx, Fideī Dēfēnsor, Indiae Imperātor”, with an English translation of “George the Fifth, by the Grace of God, King of all the British People, Defender of the Faith, Emperor of India”.
