A fine WWI trio and one of 3011 to the Australian Naval and Military Expeditionary Forces, later re-enlisting with the Australian Imperial Force and serving with the 19th Battalion and the artillery, medals court mounted and seen wear, generally Very Fine, scarce. Ernest Henry Vere was born on the 8th of September 1878 in Leeds, West Yorkshire, England and became a resident of Sydney, Australia in his early life, working as a valet and labourer and serving with the New South Wales Royal Marine Light Infantry for four and a half years. With the onset of the First World War, Vere attested for service with the Australian Naval and Military Expeditionary Forces on the 11th August 1914 for overseas service in German New Guinea, enlisting as Private 1060 of ‘E’ Company of the 1st Battalion, A.N.&M.E.F.
- Embarked at Sydney for German New Guinea aboard H.M. Transport ‘Berrima’ on the 19th August 1914, disembarked at Palm Island on the 24th August
- Discharged from the AN&MEF on the 28th January 1915 with a total service 171 days, one of 3011 AN&MEF servicemen
After discharging, Ernest H. Vere re-enlisted for service in the First World War, attesting for the Australian Imperial Force on the 1st of March 1915at Liverpool, New South Wales, now as Private 1332 of “D” Company, 19th Australian Infantry Battalion.
- Embarked at Sydney for the Middle East aboard H.M. Transport ‘Ceramic on the 25th June 1915, disembarked at Alexandria on the 23rd of July.

- Taken on Strength to 2nd Division Heavy Trench Mortar Battery on the 18th May 1916
- To V2A Trench Mortar Battery 11th June 1916
- Transferred to 4th Field Artillery Brigade 5th of February 1917
- Disciplinary Court Martial held at Warwick Square on the 4th January 1918 for absence, awarded four months detention
On the 6th November 1918, Ernest H. Vere embarked for Australia aboard H.M. Transport ‘Marathon’ due to chronic rheumatism, disembarking at Sydney on the 2nd of January 1919, and was later discharged from the Australian Imperial Force as medically unfit on the 14th May.
