Empire of Japan, Mutsuhito, as Meiji the Great, Emperor of Japan 1867-1912 AD, Silver Yen (26.83g, 38.5mm), Meiji regnal year 3 (1870 AD), Osaka mint. Obverse: Dragon holding pearl with clockwise curls, inner beaded border and legend in Kanji surrounds, “年 一 十 二 治 明 · 本 日 大”. Reverse: Denomination in Kanji “一圓” central within wreath of Paulownia Flower branch left and Chrysanthemum Flower branch right, each tied together with ribbon below, Imperial Seal of Japan above. KM Y-5.1; JNDA-01-09. Supremely toned with an appealing dusty grey patina supplemented with light amber shades towards the central devices, some easily overlooked minor marks, details Mint State.
