Description
Celtic Britannia, the ‘Belgae’ people, Gold Stater (6.04g, 18mm), British B (Chute type), circa 65-58 BC. Obverse: Devolved head of Apollo consisting of wreath, cloak and crescents. Reverse: Devolved horse facing to the left, with body of crescents and disjointed, linear limbs and rectangular, half-voided head, array of pellets above, pellet within circle to upper right, crab below body. Appears struck unevenly causing an oval flan and flatness of strike to one side, most devices on flan including the whole horse and crab motif below, plenty of pellets above, few very minor hairlines, good Very Fine.
