Born on the 12th of December 1909 son of Ernest Robert Kent and Zoe Mary Millicent Perry, Noel John Hamilton Kent enlisted at the age of 30 on the 5th of June 1940 at Paddington, New South Wales, joining the R.R.D. of the Australian Army. He was transferred to the Royal Australian Engineers on the 5th of August 1940 and embarked from Australia 26th of December of the same year. Kent was promoted to Lance Corporal on the 12th of March 1942, to Sergeant on the 31st of August 1944, and then to Warrant Officer Class 1 on the 4th of January 1946. After the Second World War, Kent was posted to the 1st Australian Mobile Printing Press in the Middle East on the 24th of March 1947 and promoted to Lieutenant. He was discharged on the 24th of May 1949 at the Eastern Command Headquarters.
