Hugh Raymond Heaphy from Melbourne enlisted into the Australian Infantry Forces on the 15th of July 1915 and embarked for with the expeditionary forces on the 26th of October of the same year. En route to join the British Expeditionary Forces in France, Heaphy transferred to the 2/D.A.C. in the middle east on the 11th of March 1916 and finally arrived in Marseille on the 27th. The following year, Heaphy was wounded in action with a gunshot to his leg on the 16th of April 1917.
Following the cessation of the Great War, Heaphy returned to Australia and arrived back in Melbourne on the 25th of October 1919. Unfortunately, his wound to the leg several years earlier continued to cause him suffering and was forced to spend further time in hospital until – eventually being deemed medically unfit and was discharged from service on the 10th of February 1920.
Swing mounted as worn, comes with his return from active service badge. Very Fine.
