Victoria, Queen of the United Kingdom 1837-1901 AD, Coronation Medal in silver (36mm), 1838, engraved by Benedetto Pistrucci. Obverse: Diademed Head of Queen Victoria facing to the left, her hair collected in a bun, legend surrounds, “VICTORIA D.G. BRITANNIARUM REGINA F.D.”. Reverse: Queen Victoria seated on backless throne set above three-tiered stage, uncrowned and draped and holding sovereign’s orb and sceptre; to her left the draped and helmeted figures of Britannia, Scotia and Hibernia offering St Edward’s Crown, Lion to right, paw on lightning bolt, “IN AUGURATA DIE JUNII XXVIII MDCCCXXXVIII” in exergue, legend surrounds above, “ERIMUS TIBI NOBILE REGNUM”. Typical hairlines and contact marks for the modest grade, a charming example, handsomely toned with a deep cabinet grey with hints of blueish hues intermingled through the devices, far more attractive in hand rather then through a camera lens, good Very Fine.
