Description
Elizabeth I of the House of Tudor, Queen of England 1558-1603 AD, Silver Sixpence (3.18g, 25mm) dated 1569, Third Issue, Intermediate Bust 4B, mintmark Coronet (1567-1570). Obverse: Crowned bust of Queen Elizabeth I facing to left, her ear showing, Tudor Rose to right, legend around, “ELIZABETH: D’G: ANG: FR: ET HI REGINA”. Reverse: Flat-topped Shield of Arms of the House of Tudor over long cross fourchée, date “1569” above, legend around, “POSVI DEV.’AD IVTORE M MEV:”. Spink 2562; North-1997. Weak spot over shield, otherwise a charming coin struck on a round flan, Very Fine.
The Obverse Latin legend reads “Elizabeth, Dei Gratia, Angliae, Franciae et Hiberniae, Regina”, with an English translation of “Elizabeth, by the Grace of God, Queen of England, of France and of Ireland”. The Reverse Latin legend reads “Posui Deum Adjutorem Meum”, with an English translation of “I have made God my helper”.
