Description
Dutch Republic, the Netherlands, Gold ‘Half Rider’ of 7 Gulden (4.92g, 21mm), 1760, Holland mint. Obverse: Crowned Escutcheon central featuring the Dutch Republic Rampant Lion holding sword and the bundle of seven arrows, representing the Seven United Provinces of the Netherlands, denomination either side, date above, legend surrounds, “CONCORDIA· RES· PARVÆ· CRESCUNT·”. Reverse: Dutch Knight, adorned in studded armour and unplumed helmet, atop horse leaping to the right, wielding sword in right hand above and holding the horses reins in left, sash flows behind, crowned escutcheon of the Dutch Republic below with exergual-ground lineleft, legend surrounds, “MO: AUR: PRO: CONFŒD: BELG: HOLLAND:”. KM-96; Delmonte-783. Appears lightly brushed, although basically unnoticeable; an attractive Dutch gold piece. Extremely Fine.
The obverse Latin legend reads “Concordia Res Parvæ Crescunt”, with an English translation of “Small things flourish through concord”. The reverse Latin legend reads “Moneta Aureae Provinciae Confoederationis Belgii, Hollandiae”, with an English translation of “Gold Money of the confederation of Belgium, province Holland”.
