Commonwealth of England, the interregnum of 1649-1660 AD, Silver Crown of Five Shillings (29.70g), dated 1652, Sun mintmark, struck at the Tower mint, London. Obverse: Kite Shield bearing the Cross of Saint George within wreath of laurel to right and palm branch to left, legend around, “· COMMONWEALTH · OF · ENGLAND ·”. Reverse: Two Kite Shields side by side, the left bearing the Cross of Saint George, the right bearing the Harp of Ireland, denomination “V·” above, all within inner beaded border, legend around, “· GOD · WITH · US · 1652”. Spink-3214; North-2731; Esc-5A. Quite boldly struck, especially the surrounding legend – darkly toned and attractive, this coin certainly captures the eye. About Extremely Fine / Good Very Fine.
