Description
Decimus Clodius Albinus, as Caesar (under Septimius Severus) and the fourth Emperor during the Year of the Five Emperors, Silver Denarius (3.29g, 17mm), struck at Rome 194-195 AD. Obverse: Bare Head of Clodius Albinus facing to right, legend around, “D CLOD SEPT ALBIN CAES”. Reverse: Roma enthroned upon round shield facing to left, holding sceptre in left hand and Victory in right, legend around, “ROMAE AETERNAE”. Sear-6146; RIC-11a; RSC-61. Struck with good metal of quite argentum colour, this piece offers a praiseworthy and affordable portrait of Clodius Albinus during his time as Caesar, good Very Fine / Very Fine.
The Obverse Latin legend reads “Decimus Clodius Septimius Albinus Caesar”, stating his name in full following the adoption of the name Septimius into his nomenclature as well as the title of Caesar from Septimius Severus. The Reverse Latin legend is stated in full and has an English translation of “Everlasting Rome”.
