Cnut ‘the Great’, Anglo-Saxon King of all England 1016-1035 AD, Silver Penny (1.04g), Quatrefoil Type, struck at Thetford mint, Moneyer ‘Sprunt’. Obverse: Crowned and Draped Bust of King Cnut facing left within quatrefoil, legend around, “✠ CNVT REX ΛNGLORV” (“Cnut, King of the English”). Reverse: Long voided cross with pellet centre and tri crescent terminals over quatrefoil with a pellet on each cusp, legend around, “✠ ZPRVNT ON ÐEO”. Spink-1157. Cnut the Great, also known as Canute, whose father was Sweyn Forkbeard, was King of Denmark, England and Norway; together often referred to as the North Sea Empire. He reigned from 1016-1035AD.
